About Dr. Dunn
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended public schools. After graduating from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, I worked as a social worker for several years, first at a homeless shelter and then at a community mental health center. I enjoyed serving those with significant needs, but I frequently found myself being drawn to medicine. I eventually decided to go back to school.
My husband and I moved to NYC in 1997 as newlyweds and I attended medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I also completed my pediatrics residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. I spent a year practicing in New York state prior to moving to Virginia
.
I practiced pediatrics as an outpatient pediatrician in Front Royal, VA for 15 years. I had the good fortune to practice with Dr. Richard Christoph, the best physician I have ever known. He was an amazing doctor and mentor and I learned a wide range of skills working with him.
In 2019 I left this practice and became a pediatric hospitalist at Winchester Medical Center, caring for newborns and sick children admitted to the hospital as well as providing consultation to the ER as necessary. This was such a great opportunity as the schedule allowed me to continue my career in medicine while I homeschooled my three children. This was one of the great privileges of my life.
In 2020-2021, I completed a 300 hour training course in acupuncture for physicians led by Harvard professor Joseph Audette, MD. I loved learning a whole new way to view the body and health. I still consider myself a beginner, but I have had some profound results in the acupuncture I have done and I am excited to continue to learn!
My first love in medicine is outpatient pediatrics, where I have the most experience and can develop long-term relationships with children and families. Now that my children are grown, the time is right for me to return to this and spend some time caring for your family!
I have been married to Bill for 29 years. I am active in my church community. When I have free time I love to read, hike, run and cook. I would love to get to know your family and find out your story!
