Barefoot Pediatrics
Deborah Dunn, MD
Direct Primary Care focused on helping your children thrive

My Core Values
Healthy Lifestyle
Good health starts with healthy living. This includes nutritious food, outside play, physical activity, intellectual challenge and restful sleep. We will discuss how these fit into your child's life in a practical way.
Vaccinations
Vaccines are an important way to prevent infectious disease and I recommend you carefully consider them for your child. They are an important part of any primary care conversation for children, but because everyone is at a different place in their health journey, they are not required to be a member of Barefoot Peds.
Holistic Care
Good health involves physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. I consider all of these factors, and address them using western medicine along with other alternatives. I am trained in acupuncture and other integrative options.
Love like Jesus
Each person is made in the image of God and is of infinite value. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are very welcome. Know that I approach each person with love and respect because I believe them to be a precious creation. Sometimes the answer to a health problem can be a spiritual solution.
My Unique Mission
What is Direct Primary Care?
Our modern medical system makes it difficult for doctors to have enough time to answer all of a parent's questions and give them all the information that will be helpful to them as they lead their children. It can also be difficult to get an appointment or just ask your doctor a quick question. In Direct Primary Care, the relationship is between you and your doctor. No insurance company to tell us what to do. This allows me to have 30-60 minute visits each time, instead of needing to have a rapid turnover where we both feel rushed. Patients subscribe to the practice for a monthly fee, and typically all services provided by Dr. Dunn are included. No copays, no surprises. As many visits as you need. And many things can be handled by text, phone call or video chat.
Where is your office?
To keep costs down and convenience up, your child's visits will take place in your home. Doctor visits don't have to be dreaded, as kids are most relaxed in their own setting. If you live within a 20 minute drive of my home in Winchester, VA, visits are included in your monthly subscription. If you are outside this area, there will be an additional transportation fee to help cover my time and gas. If you prefer not to have visits in your own home, I can do visits in my home on a case-by-case basis. Contact me to discuss this. As the practice becomes more full, routine home visits may change to office visits; however, I plan to continue see infants in-home for the first month of their life even if I establish an office.
Is this only for the wealthy?
No! The monthly subscription is meant to be affordable. This often works best for people if they have a high-deductible insurance plan or a health sharing agreement. But every child benefits from an experienced medical provider as they grow and develop. It is an unfortunate situation that those who are struggling financially rarely get the same level of medical care as those that can afford more, even though they often have more complex needs. My goal is to have one third of my patients from lower-income families at a minimal price. If you are interested in helping expand the possibilities for this, I encourage you to add an optional donation to your monthly subscription. If your family would benefit from low cost care, please contact me to discuss the options.
